Will Gfast be the next big thing

Fewer and fewer of us are using our home phones, personally I don’t even own one and there are those who have had the copper wiring that used to provide their landline phone connection removed. Why? There are many reasons, some simply didn’t replace damaged wiring and had it removed for safety, feeling of course that damaged wiring that wouldn’t be used was something they were simply better off without. Some even had it removed to sell a few years ago when the resale value of scrap metal like copper rose considerably. However; they might come to regret it.

There are two reasons I am happy with the copper wiring remaining in my home, the first is that it provides an emergency internet connection. Using pay-as-you-go dialup internet services you can accomplish a connection at any time, day or night, for low cost and reliability. This is perfect if you have a wireless broadband connection which suffers unexplained and unpredictable signal drop frequently, reducing your internet service to nothing.

Instead of sitting there, restarting your modem, running diagnostics on your connection and wondering how many tries it will take to guess your neighbours password you can just plug in a cable, log in and pay for it with your phone bill at the end of the month. Simple. Don’t want to use it for longer than you have to? If you have a smartphone, tablet or wi-fi enabled mp4 player with app support you can download a radio streaming app and open it. Of course it won’t be able to stream the radio until it manages to accomplish a wi-fi connection, so when it starts playing music your internet is back on and you can switch back to broadband without wasting time waiting for it and not getting things done.

The second reason I like knowing I still have that connection available is because copper wire is actually very good at doing broadband. G.fast is a broadband option that uses copper telephone wire to achieve download speeds of up to 1GBps; it is reliable, and because the copper wire is already there and ready to go it’s cheap too. The standardisation of G.fast stated in 2011, it is expected that by April 2014 it will be a standard and easily attainable form of connectivity, which could mean faster, cheaper and more reliable internet packages for anyone who struggles with wireless broadband.

The fastest LTE-Advanced networks currently being tested use 40MHz of spectrum, but the G.fast would use 106MHz; which does give you a pretty good indication of the speeds you might expect from this new form of broadband. The only problems so far are that the G.fast won’t work over long distances; which makes it an unlikely solution for rural areas unless there is big demand for it; enough to warrant installing an exchange in the area. The second problem is that, as you would expect of a service that uses the landline copper connections; it will be affected by crosstalk interference. This isn’t to the extent of dialup – you will be able to use the phone and internet at the same time as there is vectoring to counter it, however there may need to be some physical modifications made to your wiring to ensure this works correctly. As not many people use their landlines any more however this is unlikely to cause much of an issue at all.

How Many Words Should My Blog Post Contain

People have been saying for generations that a picture is worth a thousand words. In this respect, your blog posts should be worth less. Even though it's hard to give a definitive answer to this question because there are many unknowns, as far as blogs go, bigger isn't always better. You need to understand this – you aren't writing a novel. You are publishing online content, and when they're online, people don't want to spend too much time reading something. Even if your content is interesting, very few will likely dedicate their time to reading a really long blog post.

In fact, in many cases the length of a post might put people off which means they won't even begin to read your blog post, let alone read the entire thing. That being said, there are certain topics you can afford to write a lot about. Highly specialized subjects like science can get away with long posts because then people are looking for a certain information and are willing to spend more time trying to find it. With this in mind, I have decided to group blog posts in three categories – short, medium and long. Like I said, there is no definitive answer, but there are certain rules and principles you have to follow if you want to be successful.

Short Blog Posts (500-1000 words)

Short blog posts are what you should generally aim for. When I write about something that doesn't require elaborate explanations or complicated qualifications, I usually try to keep it within the 500 words. I don't always manage, but I believe this is the optimum length for most blog posts.

You need to ask yourself, “Why am I writing this? What kind of message I want to convey?” Usually when you're writing a blog, you are presenting with your opinion on certain topics or you're writing about something new or hot. This is all well and good, but people on the Web get easily bored so if you spend 2000 words on something that could've easily been explained in 500, you are going to lose readers. Try to be as informative and brief as possible. Like I said, most blog posts should fall into this category.

Medium Blog Posts (1000-2000 words)

You are already using way too many words, but you can get away with it in certain cases. If your content is interesting, shocking and informative, people might forgive the length. If you insert a joke here and there (and no, knock-knock jokes don't count) and keep your audience entertained, 2000 words might not bore them that much. Still, here you need to tread carefully. This length is usually reserved for stories people can get involved in or lists people would like to read about in order to be entertained.

If a person starts to read your 2000 blog post on how you hate Mondays and you spend 500 words on how your colleague, Steve, really loves Monday morning and how strange you find that, you can be sure that many people won't get to the end. Preferably, here you want to talk about things people are interested in in your niche. As a bit of a nerd, for example, I like comic books, so I wouldn't mind reading a 2000 word blog post on why making a Batman/Superman movie at this point is a bad idea, or Top 10 most powerful beings in the DC Universe. But I don't care about your Monday, and neither do most people.

Long Blog Posts (2000+ words)

Unless you're writing about science or your content is highly entertaining (and I do mean highly, like, hilarious), or you're writing a really good story, steer clear of posts of such length. This will be an absolute disaster if you pour so much time and effort into writing something 5 pages long that no one would ever read. We don't care about your coworker's ugly neck tie, so don't bother telling us about it. If you don't have anything interesting to say, but since this is the Internet you want to say something anyway, keep it short.

Responsive Web Design Testing Resources

As far as responsive web design is concerned, testing is one of the most crucial aspects of this truly complicated process. It's not just about writing the code and figuring out the layout and the design, but you also have to be adamant in your strive for perfection by constantly testing the product again and again and looking for flaws in what is otherwise a perfect symphony of mathematical precision.

Indeed, the process is difficult, but there are lots of tools to help you along the way in this inexorable march towards a flawless product. It is in the irrevocable nature of the responsive web design that you have to always be on your guard and not let your guard down even for a second, otherwise mistakes might be made that will put your whole project in jeopardy. Fear not, though, as I will present you with some of the most useful weapons to combat those dire eventualities and forever detriment the rise defects and imperfection in your work. If perfection is what you're after, then you will definitely need some of these tools.

Respondr

Responsive Web Design Testing Resources

Invaluable companion to anyone who is searching for anomalies in one's design, Respondr is a pretty small and easy to use tool. It enables you to check the results of your work through the eyes of various devices without actually having to own those devices. Have you got the dimensions right? Are the pictures displayed properly? Is the site loading with a regular speed? Answer these questions and more with the help of this little gem. Just paste the URL of the site you want to test and then pick the setting of the device and viola – you're done! It's a truly amazing yet unimaginably simple tool, but you know what they say – everything genius is simple.

Viewport Resizer

In a pretty similar fashion like Repondr above, VR enables you to copy and paste the URL of the site you want to test and the settings you want to test it with. This little program has more variety in options, though, as it lets you go from a small smartphone to an HDTV and even though I doubt most people use their 49” plasma to browse the web, when you are after perfection, then you are not allowed to make any compromises, even if it's a huge improbability that anyone will ever see your site in this manner.

Responsivator

You already know the drill – enter URL, pick dimensions of testing. If you're already getting a sense of deja vu, you should – you've already seen it. But of course you, these tools are similar and have the same functions using the same methods – what did you expect? Still, there are small differences between all of them. In this case the difference comes from the fact that this tool lets you also use a custom resolution or screen size in order to test it, which is pretty neat if you're trying to pull something interesting and truly creative.

Screenfly

Guess what this tool does. If your answer is “creating a virtual fly on your screen just to annoy you or scare your girlfriend”, then you haven't been paying much attention to the article so far. It lets you enter a URL to test a site, choose the dimensions you want to test and also enables you to share a custom link with others to test the site, which is what makes it different from the other programs or applications in here.

Well, you can choose one or more of these to test your site and create something truly beautiful and unique. Good luck!

Graphical Updates of Web Designs

Web designing is a very complex process wherein it needs a set of skills and a certain amount of discipline to produce, maintain and run the website.

Now that with every passing day a new phone or a tablet is being released creating a new website for every other resolution is not advised, and in most cases is not the solution. The best option is to create a website that is user friendly, and one which has the most graphical content in it, also make sure that the designs are responsive. The website should have a catchy slogan and a new way of experiencing the web all together.

Web Designs
Many leading social networking websites have rich graphics. This brings with it a lot of excitement for the new user, and also to the ones which are already there. These websites depend on their web designers to come up with designs that intrigues the user, this is because, and the owners of the website know that, for any website to run they need their designers to keep altering it, not so much that it misplaces its main purpose.

Website owners know that this is possible only when they have a good team of web designers in hand. Basically the job of these web designers is to come up with fresh new ideas so that the website does not lose its place it the listing and predominantly not its users. For example Facebook comes up with a whole-lot of new things which improve the usage of the website. This keeps the users (us) hooked on to it.

Usually, website consists of web styles and web content. These days, in this aggressive web world web content brings more requirement and it comes through all over the globe. These days, most of the people began understanding the need of the web style and using it. Hardly web content become more essential and important for every web experts who manages websites. Web content provides well developed and visual website to the web visitors and also for the web experts. Web programing are done by the web developers and if they design the site well, then it can be said that the website brings more provides from the clients as well as more priority among the visitors.

For good graphical content you need two types of people: Web designers and web developers. Mainly, you need a good team of web designers who are good in motion graphics, because the thing that catches your eye the most whenever you are going through a web page are the motion graphics, and another good team of web developers. These teams’ works together to make sure that you have the best web page possible.

Web styles can be designed using effective web developers and he may use more program such as CSS, HTML and many other types of 'languages'. Every web styles designed by the web developer should be lightweight and the web style designed should be organized has it is simple friendly and quickly simple to understand to the web visitors. When appropriate web developing is done for the website, then the particular website brings more visitors among the web visitors as well as the web developers come up with more reputation among the individuals.

To ensure that you have a good web page you need a fair amount of web developers and web designers, these people will make the page as user friendly as possible. They will first take your concept and work on it, developing ideas which are fairly new and with that they start building the website. These teams will plan the, it depend on their web designers to come up with designs that intrigues the user, this is because, and the owners of the website know that, for any website to run they need their designers to keep altering it, not so much that it misplaces its main purpose.

● Page layout.

● Motion graphics.

● Code.

● Typography.

● User experience.

● Interactive designs.

After planning all this, these teams will do their respective jobs for the better outcome of your web page. This process can take a while meaning week’s months and even in some cases years. You have to keep your cool during this period but must always keep a track of the progress. Also make sure that you make all the members in every team sign an intellectual property agreement, so that your idea stays with you. So web design is considered as an important aspect for all who maintain a website for their business.

Top five virtual servers of 2013

More and more computing is going virtual. The advantages offered by hosting data in ‘the cloud’ is so great that uptake of cloud storage and virtual servers show these are set to become the norm. It’s easy to see why when you look at the advantages of virtual servers:

1. Low capital expenditure. There’s no need to buy expensive equipment. And virtual servers are generally utilized at 80% as opposed to the 5-15% utilization of physical servers so fewer are required.

2. Improved efficiency

3. Less risk of downtime as virtual servers quickly divert traffic to a working server. This saves the cost in the form of losses often associated with downtime

4. Quick deployment of new servers because there’s no need for physical changes

5. Saves energy, which means lower costs and benefits the environment.

6. Opens opportunities for cloud computing

7. Ability to continue using outdated software which would normally become incompatible with modern hardware.

So if all these advantages are generally available with any virtual server what’s the difference between different virtual servers and which are the best?

VPSnine VPS256 virtual server

Top five virtual servers of 2013
Basic linux virtual servers are perfect for small businesses that have minimal requirements in terms of storage space, bandwidth and processing power but still want the benefits of a virtual server.

With the VPS256 you get 10GB of hard drive space, 300GB bandwidth speeds, 256MB of RAM which is also supplemented by 384MB of ‘burst’ RAM to cater for a sudden increase in traffic. All these numbers sound very low, especially when compared with some top of the range virtual server offering but for only $10 a month you can’t argue that it’s a very low cost solution that fits in with small business demands well.

As mentioned virtual servers can be implemented and ready to almost immediately. The interface is user friendly with over 25 Linux operating systems to choose from.

VPS.NET

VPS NET has both US and UK bases. The bandwidth promise is the most beefy part of their offering, in fact your disk space and RAM allowances are comparable to cheap super market burgers buns around a premium chuck steak beef burger i.e. measly in juxtaposition. However if high broadband speeds are the most important thing to you then this is the right niche product. There’s 1 terabyte broadband meaning super fast network transfers. The uptime is also very impressive at 99.99%. Despite only 376MB of RAM the other impressive features makes the $25 a month price tag a bargain for the right customer.

HostGator

Environmentalists who value wind power will love this. HostGator has a wind energy source that generates 130% of the power needed to run the servers.

You won’t be tied into a long contract either as HostGator operate a rolling contract month by month. Like most other hosting companies there are a variety of packages which HostGator allow a lot of flexibility on. Depending on your needs they’re able to offer both VPS hosting (idea shared virtual server hosting) or dedicated hosting meaning that only you have space on the physical server.

InMotion

InMotion is a top pick for me because you get low cost hosting with the option of two physical locations for your virtual hosting. This means enhanced security because if there’s a disaster at one location your hosting will default to the other location seamlessly with little to no downtime.

Like HostGator you have the choice of sharing hosting space or securing dedicated and private servers. Additionally the user experience reported is really positive. Use the basic functions easily or optimise the interface to making advanced tasks a cinche.

SharePoint Server 2013

Most people will have heard of SharePoint and some may have their opinions of SharePoint products. The SharePoint Server 2013 is a little different to other servers I’ve been talking about as in this case I’m referring more to the front end functions that users actively interact with.

SharePoint is a sub category of Microsoft and is in essence a virtual workspace for fast communication and collaboration. It can handle enormous amounts of data easily. There’re handy apps to aid productivity and keep work flows on track.

The system is ‘scalable’ meaning you can start out with basic business functions and add to or take away from the environment’s capabilities and architecture. So if you have workers who need to work together or view the same information but they’re physically remote SharePoint solves that geographical issue simply.

It’s worth looking into virtual server backup solutions too in order to ensure the absolute security of your virtualised environments and back up of cloud stored data.

Double Your E-commerce Traffic and Ranking

If you're running an e-commerce site one of the hardest things (beyond the obvious architectural issues) will usually be getting people to actually link to your site. If you've a great site with great products you might get the odd mention in a forum somewhere (typically a no-follow link) or if you're really lucky you might get a link from a blogger who advocates your products. Don't get me wrong I'm not suggesting these aren't useful and they happen naturally so that's always nice but actually getting enough links to boost the value of your domain can be hard.

Start a Blog

web
It doesn't matter what the product is from camping and outdoor survival gear to chocolates or sex toys any product can be written about at length in detail in a way that people want to read. This has two advantages, it gives you an opportunity to cross-link your own content - linking blog articles to product pages with valuable anchor text - but more importantly it gives you an opportunity to link environmentally from guest posts externally and it increases the likelihood that people will share to or even link to. One caveat, while longer, more regularly updated content is good there is a minimum post rate, a blog that lies dormant for months looks bad, don't start one unless time can be dedicated to it.

Blogging Considerations

On or Off-site

You have a few choices for blogging, both on and off-site. While free off-site options such as WordPress.com or blogger might seem appealing these don't actually get links to your site. You would be boosting the authority of a site to then link to yours. Although this can help a little it is always best if you can to self host.

What Blogging Software

There's a distinct possibility that your CMS already supports - or has the functionality to support a blog. Take Magento for example, with a simple plugin and a few tweaks you can incorporate a full WordPress site into your existing theme, likewise Drupal can easily add a blog. If this option exists and you have a limited budget then take it. It may limit some functionality and plugins but it will massively cut the cost of theming your blog to match your site. If this option doesn't exist don't worry there are multiple platforms available such as

WordPress - It's the worlds favourite for a reason, it has a 5 minute set up time, comes with thousands of free plugins and themes and is incredibly easy to manage. For the less tech Savvy business owner this is the way to go. It has had a range of security issues but a competent Webmaster should easily be able to beef up the default. Inkthemes offer a excellent security guide.

Movable Type - It's powerful and simple to use but the support for it is non-existent when compared to WordPress so you will need someone familiar with the platform.

ExpressionEngine Core - ExpressionEngine's free (Core) offering is somewhat limited but will be sufficient for most small sites, the premium upgrade takes this to a new level making it ideal for businesses looking for more functionality. However this has a steep learning curve.

Habari - In a few years this may well replace WordPress as the Standard Blogging Platform. Elegant and technically up to date but for now it's still not mature enough to pick up the mantle for less code savvy. Consequently unless you're from a developer background this could be an issue.

Drupal - Technically more a Website CMS rather than a blogger platform but once you get past the considerably steeper learning curve this offers more power and functionality than WordPress will ever offer.

Writing Your Blog

What you write about will vary wildly from product to product but there should be three forms of content produced.

Evergreen content

Evergreen content that you can promote year round:
If you're selling chocolate content about gifts, chocolate production, production insights, product comparison etc.

Seasonal content

Seasonal content (or time sensitive content) is produced to capitalise on search pick up around pending events such as Fathers day, Valentines, or a high profile event such as the Olympics:

If you're selling car parts, race day updates, new car profiles and general industry news, just remember this needs to be churned fast and pushed quickly because it may be usable once a year but much of it will be single use.

Authority or High Value Content:

This last type of output will be the most time consuming to write and where you pick up the bulk of your links, this is typically data driven but needs to expand universal appeal and belong to the company values:

A great example would be sporting goods, while you can produce one off articles about hiking take the time to write a year round hiking guide, what equipment you need, ideal places to learn, recommended routes etc. This content may get picked up and syndicated by large high authority sites such as a Local trust or council page who are looking to promote the area.

Getting Links

The benefits of having a blog on an e-commerce site are numerous, they offer the opportunity to increase your sites content, keep your site fresh (very important for organic search listings) and give you valuable cross-linking opportunities. More importantly however are the link building opportunities.

Finding Link Opportunities

Guest blogging: A vast number of sites are only too happy to allow links to articles adding value, few will be prepared to link to a sites product pages. Instead of writing an article hoping for a link to an item you want to sell, promote a blog post that links to the article, it wont have as much of an impact but you can now get considerably more links raising the value and potentially bringing traffic to your site.

Mentions Monitoring: Using something as simple as the Moz Freshweb explorer or Google Alerts for mentions of brand or targeted keywords you can then reach out to webmasters advising them that you have content their audience might find useful. If you can sweeten the offering by providing a stock image or even an insight to enrich the article this can increase your chances of getting a natural and valuable link.

Authority Content

High value content tends to garnish shares, links and visibility all its own so this isn't always necessary however if you put together some valuable content that just isn't picking up traction consider sponsoring it. It might sound counter intuitive but by using sponsored Facebook, Twitter and stumbles you can get your content in front of an audience who'll start to link to it. Spending time, or even a few pounds promoting your site through your various social channels might not sound like a bargain but those links your content earns may mean the difference between a page one listing and being relegated to page 2, to say nothing of the potential traffic.

Dial-Up vs. Broadband Internet Connection – Which Is Better?

Thinking of getting an internet connection for your home or business? If so, then you will likely encounter the need to choose among several options. Two of the most popular connection choices are dial-up and broadband. Of course, both of these alternatives have their own sets of pros and cons.

So, which one is best for you? Read on and find out for yourself.

Pros and Cons of Dial-Up Connection

Let’s begin with dial-up’s advantages. First off, this type of connection is highly recommended for those who want to save on internet expenses. Compared with broadband, this is more affordable and so it makes a practical pick if you are tight on the budget.

Also, statistics confirm that you are much safer from hackers if you are a dial-up user. This simply means that a dial-up is far more secure than a broadband.

Now the biggest factor that disappoints potential subscribers is that dial-up can be awfully slow. These services can only deliver a speed of up to 56kbps. This may not be very ideal if your work requires fast internet connections. You’ll end up being frustrated by its performance when you have to download heavy files or make video calls. Problems with disconnection and busy lines are very common, especially during bad weather.

Another drawback here is that it requires a lot of tools to work. Modem and other external devices are necessary for your connection to run. This can be very inconvenient for users.

dial-up_vs_broadband
Pros and Cons of Broadband Connection

Quite obviously, a major advantage of this connection type is its speed. Loading several web pages and opening more than a few tabs will not be an issue anymore. Viewing YouTube videos, for example, will not take forever. Case in point, this is the better choice if performance is your top priority.

As opposed to dial-up’s behavior, broadband service does not depend on weather and other natural factors. You are guaranteed to receive high quality connection anytime you need it.

Portability is another major benefit you can only experience if you go with broadband. With this option, connecting to the internet at any given time and at any given place is always possible. This can be most suitable for those who use laptops.

Now make no mistake about it – broadband is far from perfect and it also has many flaws with the first one being its cost. Its high quality speed literally comes with a price that’s why you should expect bigger amounts to pay when compared with dial-up charges.

Security is also a potential setback with wireless broadband. As such, it’s really crucial to update your settings regularly to ensure that you can continue using the service without problems.

Conclusion

In the end, what you select should really depend on your actual needs. If you are a light user who only needs to access the web to send a few emails here and there, then dial-up could be a perfect choice. Broadband, on the other hand, is definitely the way to go if you value speed and performance above anything else.

What to Look for in an Article Writing Service

What to Look for in an Article Writing Service - Outsourcing Multilingual Copywriting

Unless you are a native speaker of the language that you are targeting, it’s necessary to hire a writer or an international article writing service for your multilingual copywriting. It’s important that the article writing service that you work with is solid in three broad concepts: expectations, value, and integrity. Otherwise, you’ll be left with a bad taste in your mouth for the multilingual SEO and meaningful role it can play depending upon your business.

Expectations

article
Does the service provider listen to your requirements, concerns, and campaign goals? The first step in being able to provide a high quality article is to understand what the customer’s needs are. It’s important to know that your provider understands the scope of the job and other requirements related to the work that you need done.

With that in mind, it’s important that you convey the scope of the work, turnaround time, and other job related information to the provider clearly, but also ensure that the article writing service is able to communicate those requirements back to you in a meaningful way.

Finally, a word of caution, if it sounds too good to be true, ask for good, documented, verifiable evidence that the work will go as promised. Like any other industry, copywriting has good actors and bad actors. If a service provider is promising you the world at a rock bottom price, it’s important to look at the provider, their capabilities and their estimate critically.

Value

Depending upon your business goals, you will have unique international article writing needs. If you have a low price product with slim margins, you won’t need complex and well-researched articles compared to a business that sells high end products. If your target market is college educated, they will expect a different level of quality than if you are selling your products and services to working class people.

Turnaround time is also a consideration. Article writing services can provide you high quality articles, quickly, and at a low price, pick two! Meaning, if you need high quality articles and you need them quickly, the price to perform the service will often be higher than if you don’t require as fast of a turnaround time or such a high quality article.

Integrity

The vast majority of the time you will be working virtually with an article writing service, which make integrity all the more important. Be sure to look for testimonials and case studies on the service’s website. In lieu of or in addition to testimonials and case studies, also look for free trials.

World Copywriter's article writing voucher Guarantees are a mixed bag because some of them are empty promises, but when you take into the account the other factors mentioned here, guarantees are another indicator that you are working with a reputable article writing service.

In addition to expectations, value, and integrity, it’s also important to consider any unique characteristics to your job. There are obvious considerations like does the service write articles in the language that you're targeting, to more nuanced concerns, like whether you connect on a personal level with the people at the firm. When you combine the unique issues about your article writing needs with the three concepts above, you’ll be much happier with the foreign language articles than if you didn't.

Be Water, My Friend: Understanding Responsive Design

Web design is one of the most important elements of your website and ties together aesthetics, navigation, and content to create an effective experience that encourages greater conversions. There are plenty of web design guidelines to keep you on your toes and create something that maximizes usability and aesthetic appeal, but one of the growing online trends is responsive web design. What is responsive web design, and what can you do to make it work on your site?

What is Responsive Design?

web design
Responsive design is all about flexibility, adapting to changes in the environment, and predicting how a user may use a particular page. It came as a response to the growth of hardware as people were browsing less and less on desktops and laptops and more on smart phones, tablets, and other devices.

In the beginning, sites only had one design over all devices. You can imagine the difficulty that comes with navigating a full desktop site on a much smaller mobile device. Over time, developers and web designers realized that mobile versions of their websites were a necessity. It wasn’t exactly forward thinking, but it was an effective solution at the time. So developers had two versions of the site, one for the desktop, one for mobile, but what about touch screen tablets? What about large, hi-res displays larger than normal desktop screens? Developers had to address the changing scope of web browsers and how they were used in a more concrete way. After all, they couldn’t create seven different versions of the same site. Hence responsive design.

Fluid Grids and Media Queries

“Fluid” really is one of the best words to describe responsive design. Traditionally, sites had fixed-width layouts. Page designs have a specific number of pixels across with the content centered on the page, which becomes a problem when you consider the different screen sizes and resolutions out there.

Fluid grids do away with the concept of rigid pixels and percentage values. In a fluid grid, all of the elements in the layout resize themselves in relation to one another, resulting in a site that looks fine on a big screen or a tiny mobile phone.

However, a site’s design can look horrendous if you narrow down your browser size enough. The solution: media queries. Media queries allow you to gather data about a visitor to your site and apply specific CSS styles. If, for instance, a visitor is browsing on a mobile phone, the site can automatically move navigation bars, remove unnecessary elements, or shrink down the three column layout into just two.

Switching Mindsets

To implement responsive design, you have to change your mode of thinking. While there’s nothing wrong with having a dedicated mobile site based on your business model, responsive design is less about isolated, device-specific sites and more about considering the viewing and browsing context. It’s about considering different user experiences and adapting accordingly.

If you’re considering implementing responsive design into your website, this responsive web design article is a great place to start. Good luck, and remember the advice of Bruce Lee when it comes to design. Be water, my friend—let your design flow with the many technological changes we’re bound to experience in the future.

Getting the Related Aspects of Website Design

When you are launching your website on the World Wide Web, you are investing your time, money into it. A lot is riding on the website’s success. Therefore you need to make sure your efforts are channeled in the right direction. One key aspect of a successful website is its design. Web design is not just about the appearance but also the layout of the site and how the contents of the site are organized. Often you will find sites that are real flashy looking but have no substance in them. Then there are sites that have good content but are really bland. So it is about striking the fine balance between style and substance. For that the best bet is utilizing website design by Creative Yogi.

Benefits of Custom Web Design

website
To make your presence felt online, it is almost essential to have a custom design for your website. A well executed custom design will not only help to bring in new visitors, but will also properly highlight the products or services that you are offering to the customers. Keep in mind that if you want a site with an effective professional look then the only realistic solution is custom website design by Creative Yogi.

Here are some additional benefits:

1. Because the site has custom made design, you can add plug-ins and modify designs even after the site has been launched. You can add an element of freshness in the site from time to time.

2. When your site boasts of eye catching design and quality content, it will be easier for your product or service to grab the attention of the visitors.

3. You will get custom web designs at a reasonable price.

Points to keep in mind while doing a custom design

1. Have an easy navigation system- An easy navigation will make visitors happy. This is one of the biggest aspects of a successful site. It ensures a smooth experience for web browsers. A poor navigation can irritate them.

2. There should be a master link to the homepage that users can click anytime. It will be even better if that link is attached with the sites logo.

3. Another important thing to add is a site map. It will help the visitor to figure out the layout of the site covering the menus and submenus.

4. A smart, clean professional look will instantly make the site credible to the user. It can be achieved by using appropriate color scheme, tasteful backgrounds, right font size, graphic designing, content etc.

5. You need to make sure that the pages of the site load without much delay. If it takes too much time the user will be unhappy.

6. You must add new content in your site from time to time.

There are many web designing companies these days. But you should not hire one randomly. You would not want a stock design for your site but that is exactly what most small web designing firms do. You need a custom design for your site that will amplify the strengths and hide the weaknesses.

Just 42 Minutes and You Will Learn Algebra with Video Games

Although some readers might be bewildered with the title of the article but it is actually true that at least some part of algebra can be learnt with video games. Algebra, a branch of mathematics is considered to be difficult by a large part of K-12 students owing to the symbolic manipulation of linear equations. However, the developers of a particular video game, namely, DragonBox are confident that after completing the game, which takes nearly 42 minutes, students can learn algebra.

DragonBox is actually an app developed by Jean-Baptiste Hyunh, which enables players to have an understanding of algebra. Game based learning has recently received support from all quarters considering the fact that games add fun to the otherwise boring part of learning, at least for the kids. With more and more kids having access to iPads, tablets and other gadgets, it is only a matter of time when education would be more gadget-based rather than textbook-based.

How DragonBox Works

The Dragon Box is a math game where players have to think logically to solve the puzzles. The puzzles are so designed that they make the players solve equations. There are various levels to the game, each of which is unlocked when an equation is balanced. The game does not pose a bunch of problems in front of the player but urges them to think algebraically.

Instead of the normal problems that ask students to solve “x + y”, Dragon Box uses objects and avatars. It starts at a basic level and provides the users characters and the ways to separate them. The steps taught in algebra by the conventional method are taught and practiced by the users digitally, without knowing that they are actually practicing algebra. The concepts involved in Dragon Box include fractions, elimination and isolating variables. In addition, steps such as applying similar strategy on both the sides of the equation, changing whole numbers into fractions and looking for like terms are also taught. Children are able to relate to them and retain them in a much better way as compared to the traditional x and y format.

Are video games adequate to teach?

Taking the instance of Dragon Box, it can definitely be said that video games do help in inculcating certain elements of education. It teaches the mechanism of the algebra process but it should not be thought that this is a 100% method to teach algebra. DragonBox does one half of the work while the rest must be done by the conventional methods of teaching through a tutor. The video game does not replace a teacher but helps in developing the mechanics of the algebra process. There is always the requirement of teachers that can transfer the knowledge on paper. However, the task of teaching kid algebra for the first time is definitely made easier by DragonBox.

Future of education based video games

With the trend of gadget-based learning gaining momentum with the popularity of tablets and iPads, the future of education based video games is surely bright. Games like DragonBox are soon going to be must-haves for educators as they are more learner-centric. The games teach the kids, the way they want to learn. As they are already motivated to learn, teaching them would not be a problem.

Benefits of DragonBox

1. The app imparts education in a way that is fine-tuned or customized for the kids. They are made to solve problems thinking like a mathematician. This element of the game makes the users learn algebra without their knowledge.

2. The game keeps track of the levels crossed making it possible to assess the progress of the user.

3. The incorporation of social elements helps the users in socializing.

Therefore, it can be rightly said that one can learn algebra with video games.

Four Places To Promote Your SEO Services

Are you having trouble looking for clients to buy your seo services? Then you're not alone. It's not as hard as you think it is to get clients knocking on your doorstep requesting for your seo services.

Other seo businesses are already getting flooded with clients and your seo business can too.

Here are 4 places you can start promoting your seo services that will move your business one-step closer to getting those seo clients you wished for. Let's start.

WarriorForum

Some of you may have heard of WarriorForum. It is one of the top internet marketing and seo forums on the web today. It is also the top 300 websites on the internet according to Alexa. The amount of people looking for seo services here are enormous!

wf

This seo business is getting 54,899 views on their forum thread selling their seo services. Imagine if just 5% of those people bought your services. That's already equal to 2,745 seo clients at your doorstep.

Other than that, WarriorForum also has other businesses selling web design, article writing, ebooks, etc. Basically, anything to do with internet marketing it's being sold here. The cost of opening a sales thread in WarriorForum is $20. Yes, just $20 to get your seo business in front of hundreds of thousands of potential seo clients.

They also offer a premium banner ad service right on top of their site which is a guarantee page view from 100% of their traffic at the cost of $100 per day. That is 10x more page views than what you just saw above. The only downside about this is that it is being rotated among 1 - 6 different advertisers.

DigitalPoint

DigitalPoint is another place where you can promote your seo services. It's ranked 879 in Alexa which makes it the top 1% website in terms of traffic. DigitalPoint is also one of the oldest internet marketing website today but don't judge its quality based on its age. The site has been constantly updated and their audience are no 60 year old seos.

dp

The amount of traffic is less compared to WarriorForum but getting 24,398 views on your seo business is no joke. Imagine paying for 24,398 visitors from Google Adwords. That is easily going to cost your business at least $24,000 for a "seo" related keyword.

Freelancer

Not the career of a freelancer but Freelancer.com. This website is ranked 724 in Alexa meaning they have more traffic than DigitalPoint. So, you can expect around 20,000 to 40,000 views to your seo business.

Unlike WarriorForum and DigitalPoint, Freelancer.com is a freelancer website just like Elance.com and Staff.com meaning there won't be a forum thread where you can open to promote your seo services. You promote your seo business by listing it for hire and placing bids on clients projects who are looking for seo services.

Now the cool thing about Freelancer compared to WarriorForum and DigitalPoint is that your potential customers have budgets for seo services ranging from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands. People here have real businesses who have employees, clients and revenue streams setup and not just niche website owners making their money from Adsense ads.

JVZoo Marketplace

The fourth place where you can promote your seo services is by getting affiliates to promote your business for you. They make you money and you pay them a certain commission rate. It's a win-win situation. Now, that is what I call autopilot promotion.

It's free to setup and the only thing you need to do is create a sales page and recruit affiliates to do the selling for you.

Wrapping Up

So, those are just four places you can start promoting your seo services today instead of burning your money by paying for advertisements on Google Adwords. It’s important to research for other places like this to expand your seo business and get those traffic you need.

How about you? Where are you promoting your seo services now?

... and if you would like me to cover more of these tutorials, let me know in the comments below!

Getting Over 4 Common Excuses that Keep You From Blogging

You religiously follow several blogs.

You patiently wait for updates and even inform your followers everytime your favorite blogger posts something new.

You just cannot let a day pass without reading blogs.

Well then, did it ever occur to you that you also can create your own blog?

That you have the potential to be like bloggers you are currently following. Perhaps you are worried about a few things so you decided to contain yourself to being a loyal follower.

How about you check out these common excuses that keep people from blogging? Go ahead. Perhaps later on you will realize creating your own blog is more than worth the try.

Getting Over 4 Common Excuses that Keep You From Blogging

No one gives a damn what you say or think.

Then great! Living in a perfect world, that could be possible. You need not worry about your sentence construction. You can use foul words for all you want.

But we are not. So you can only expect people to drop by your page, read and walk away or leave kind words.

So why would you bother yourself about people not caring? If you must blog, do it for love. Not because you are seeking for attention.

Stop attracting negative thoughts. If you write happy, your emotions shall be rubbed off on your posts. Readers will feel you enjoy what you are doing. That’s when you probably will start earning followers.

Bottomline is, this is your blog. Others couldn’t (and you shouldn’t let them) dictate how to run your page.

The pressure is high; you are compelled to write well.

Of course you are. Your page is lifeless without quality content.

Consider this a favor and at the same time a challenge to yourself. Keeping blogs help you sharpen your communication skills.

You might not be able to see the rewards of ensuring quality posts right away. But eventually you will reap the benefits of your hardwork. You shall gain supporters. Other bloggers will appreciate your work  and might even run to you for writing inspiration. You might gain extra income attracting advertisers to your site.

You could earn a handsome career opportunity. You’ve got your portfolio that demonstrates your skills, and that is your blog.

You have no time.

Blogging consumes time. It can even take you days completing a single post.

To say that you do not have that time to spare to blog is just another excuse. It can be addressed by managing your time. You need not publish a new post on your blog everyday. But you should at least, visit it everytime. Read comments. Answer queries and read as though you are another page visitor.

Your readers probably wouldn't mind that it takes you a week before posting a new content if it is worth the wait. Sometimes, you can use a little thrill to keep readers hooked.

So do not worry too much that you will not be able to sustain your blog.

If you want something done, you will and you can find a way to get it done.

You run out of writing ideas.

This is commonly known as the writer’s or creative block.

Again, you need not write round the clock. You have control over your time. You can write when you feel your creative juices are flowing. You can take a rest when you feel you’re not in the mood to write. You need not push hard on yourself.

There are as well several ways how you can inspire writing ideas. Read other travel blogs, or drop by any website you love. Divert your attention to another activity.

Blogging should be fun. It should not cause you additional stress as though you are writing a book report Australia. It should help make you feel better instead.

4 Reasons to Start Setting Up Your Own Travel Blog

Are you a traveler? Or by any chance, do you plan to take on a travel adventure? Are you interested in writing? Do you love telling stories or sharing experiences with your friends?

If you just answered yes, then you are all set to start your own travel blog.

Why should you bother?

You get to document your experiences and who knows, maybe inspire others eventually.

Since you religiously upload all your photos online for each of your travel, and even write lengthy captions on the memorable ones, why don’t you take your sharing up a few notches?

Create your own travel blog.

It’s up to you whether you want to merely tell stories just like what you do in a diary, or provide readers useful information, say backpacking tips. Either way, beware that growing number of followers doesn’t happen overnight. You must work hard so people will know that your page exists. And you need to make it really good so people will love you.

Well at least, you can expect your legion of loyal followers in your friends and relatives.

4 Reasons to Start Setting Up Your Own Travel Blog
You might just earn additional income.

Let us get one thing straight though: This takes time to happen.

You will first have to establish your blog, build quite an impressive number of followers so advertisers would express interest in working with you. They shall pay you handsome amount of money in exchange of links.

Business owners on the other hand might offer you freebies or even take care of your expenses on your next travels provided you’d mention or write about them in your page as well.

Then again, you must maintain quality in all of your posts to attract these kind of offers.

Meet and learn from fellow travel bloggers.

There are several souls out there who like you are exploring the world and sharing their finds online.

Eventually, you will get the opportunity to talk to and even meet some of them in person. The blogging community works like a virtual brotherhood. You automatically earn your support system. Chances are they will find your blog and shall leave uplifting comments.

They might even follow you on your social networking accounts and from there you can exchange insights about travels, as well as score suggestions on your next travel destinations.

Join contests by investing in your passion.

Every now and then, there’s an establishment that hosts contests open for all travel bloggers.

Travel bloggers are required to answer few questions and once their entry is selected, they get a chance to travel for free.

If the destination at stake is among your dream trips, then you are most likely to do everything to win. But even if you do not, it still is fine. Merely joining is already a fun experience in itself. You also did not feel stressed as all you did is invest in your passion, in what you love doing.

Do it because you want it.

At the end of the day, keeping a travel blog requires commitment. You do embark into it just so you can impress other people or earn bragging rights. It starts with that desire to share, in which you do not expect anything in return. Because if you make it good, rewards shall come without you pushing for them.
