Clever Tricks to Extend the Battery Life of Your iPhone 4S Device

If you are a fan of Apple and their entirely new generation of smartphones, then you probably remember the so-called “Antenna Gate” scandal short after the iPhone 4. Soon after the release of the device it turned out that some phone mysteriously lose their contact with the network when their owners holds them in their hands.

And then, the history was about to repeat itself with the new iPhone 4S when it turned out that the battery of the phone was running out just in a couple of hours. As a matter of fact, this problem is not only a problem of the iPhone 4S owners, but also of all users, who have upgraded the platform of their device from iOS 4 to iOS 5.

A few months later, iDowload Blog managed to clarify the reason for this abnormally rapid discharge of the battery of iPhone 4S.

According to them, the problem is connected not to the hardware of the device, but with the iOS5 operating system. So, the problem is that instead of periodically determining the location of the iPhone 4S when necessary, the change of the time zone becomes constant.

In order to solve the problem, users should turn off the automatic time zone change function. The only disadvantage is that when going to a different time zone in the future, the owner of iPhone 4S will have to set their smarphone's clock manually.

If you are also one of the owners of iPhone 4S, don't worry. There are some simple steps that will help you extend your battery life. Here are ten tips how to do that:

1. The first thing you need to do is disable the automatic time zone change function. As we already mentioned, this function is responsible for setting your iPhone's clock when you pass from one time zone to another. The problem is that the function requires the phone to determine your location all the time, which ultimately leads to rapid discharge of the battery.

In order to turn off the Time Zone function, go to Settings>Location Services>System services.

2. Turning on your iPhone's Wi-Fi connection function is also responsible for discharging your battery faster than usual. A good idea is to turn the function off whenever you don't use it. Go to your iPhone 4S' settings in order to do that.

3. Another trick you can use in order to extend the battery life of your iPhone is to turn all locational services off, because they use a great part of your smartphone's battery. Some of these locational services are: Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, Siri, etc.

4. Turn off the vibration. Leaving it turned on might be a problem in case you use all options of your iPhone 4S, because the vibration can turn out to be one of the main consumers of power. Go to Settings>Sounds in order to turn it off.

5. The option that is responsible for the automatic correction of your iPhone's display brightness is a great one. This means that every time that you find yourself in a dark place, the display brightness will be increased automatically. However, this affects your battery life, so make sure you keep medium brightness values.

6. The so-called “Push” notifications are another major consumer of power. Turn them off in order to extend your battery life.

7. Another trick that you may find useful is to turn your iCloud application off. This, however, means that you won't be able to use the features that iCloud provides you with. So, judge for yourself. You can turn the service off by going yo Settings>iCloud>Documents & Data>Cellular – off.

8. As an iPhone 4S owner you are probably aware of the fact that your smartphone has a permanent iTunes Wi-Fi synchronization, so you better turn this option off when you don't need it.

9. iPhone 4S constantly sends some data necessary for the maintenance and diagnosis of your smartphone. So, if you turn this option, you will surely extend your battery life.

10. And still, if none of the above tricks and tips is good enough for you to extend the life of your smartphone's battery, then there is only one way left for you to deal with the problem – try to restore all the original settings of iPhone 4S and don't forget to make a backup of your system in case something goes wrong.

And since they do a lot more than just texting and calling, it is important that phones survive busy days. Their life span should last.

How many apps do you have? Do you use them all?

Chances you have already grown tired of games you once were so hooked into, now, you no longer open them. But even though you no longer use these apps, they still consume much of your battery’s energy. Notifications come and go, and most of them you just ignore.

Your screen lights up and vibrates repeatedly in a day. If you’re getting confused between an incoming message and notification, then get rid of apps you no longer use. Then you will be able to conserve power.

Turn down location requests.

Do you really need to update everyone where you are? Are you sure that your posts are kept private and that no one with bad intent is stalking your accounts for your whereabouts?

Do yourself a favor, and turn off apps that ask your consent to detect and share your location.

Give yourself some room for privacy.  Owning a smartphone already keeps you busy, at least leave some room so you can move freely off the radar.

Turn on location requests only when necessary.

Keep it cool.

Positioning your phone beside gadgets that are hot will also cause your phone’s temperature to increase, and consequently, perform poorly.

Keep your phone away from hot devices. Also, kill apps that are still running even when you are not using them.

Adjust screen brightness.

Are you a fan of screaming bright screens?

That you can already write an essay with your phone as the only source of light. That simply peeking on your screen can wake the person beside you. Or make people in a dark room stare at you as though you have committed a crime.

Adjust your phone’s brightness when you can clearly see through a dim screen. It will not only help you save power, it will also protect your eyes from glare.

Disable antennas.

Make sure that your bluetooth is turned off when not in use. Do the same as well with your wi-fi.

And during those moments when your battery is on the verge of passing, and you still need it alive, put it on airplane mode for the meantime so all radios are automatically turned off. Disable the airplane mode when you are to use the phone.

Lower the volume.

In a usually quiet place such as offices, loud ringtones can be disturbing.

Make it a habit to keep your volume low, especially when you are not expecting any urgent call or message. If you are keeping your phone within your reach then it’s least likely you will have problems hearing notifications.
