The affordable Lumia 520 leads the pack with Galaxy S Duos sitting second, which clearly tells us that most consumers in the Indian market still look for feature rich budget phones. After all, not every one can shell out 40,000 odd bucks for a phone! Following the two entry level phones at the third position is the powerful Samsung Galaxy S4. Not surprising though, as the Galaxy S4 packs in the same beastly specifications as the HTC One but still comes at a good 5-7K cheaper in the market.
At 5th and 6th position are Samsung’s two mid-range offerings, the Galaxy Grand Duos and the Galaxy Core Duos. The demand for dual sim phones is on the rise and these two phones are the frontrunners. Samsung has 4 mobile phones in the top 5, which really tells the story of the Indian market. Propelled by an increasing demand of smartphones, Samsung overtook Nokia to become the largest seller of mobile phones in the Indian market this year. Samsung has the widest choice of smartphones in the market, with multiple options in all price ranges. Samsung’s quality and smart pricing has taken it to the very top.
Following the four Samsung smartphones is the Micromax A1100 Canvas 2. Micromax is one of the better Indian brands in the market and its low-cost feature packed phones have managed to entice the average Indian consumer. At 7th and 8th position are two brilliant phones in the Apple iPhone 5 and the HTC One respectively. However, these are two phones that can really burn big holes in your pockets! Priced at over 40k, these two beautifully carved phones are still a distant dream for most Indian consumers.
Moving on, we have Sony’s mid-range Xperia M and Micromax’s flagship phone Canvas 4. The Canvas 4 has impressive specs but it has not quite emulated Canvas 2’s success owing to a higher price. At 11th and 12th are the Galaxy Note 2 and the Karbonn A9 Plus.
We have two new entrants at the 13th and 14th position, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the iPhone5s making an entry into our top 20. These two feature packed phones look very promising and we expect them to soar higher up in the rankings in the coming weeks. In the last six spots, we have the Sony Xperia L , Sony Xperia Z, Micromax Canvas HD A116, Nokia Lumia 510, Sony Xperia SP and the Nokia Lumia 625 respectively.
Sony has 4 phones in the top 20, only second to Samsung. Sony has revamped its Xperia line with some great phones and is catching up fast with its rivals. Thus, Samsung and Sony remain the two most popular brands for the month of September while Micromax remains the favourite Indian brand. HTC manages only one position in the top 20 while 3 Nokia budget Windows phones still make the cut. Apple’s iPhone 5 is still at a respectable 7th position with the iPhone5s making a debut in our rankings.
